Song For Naomi

Solo exhibition at The Department Gallery

This exhibition title is based on a poem by Irving Layton. As a response to his poem, I cut the pale pastel wool of an iconic Ottawa Valley blanket into strips and rewove the rectangular blanket into a circle. On the opposite wall I used dyed black burlap and twine to make a shadow of the first circle. Like the stark rhythm of the poem, circles punctuate the gallery space, bringing together natural materials, painting and fabric. Between the "beats" a life, poetry and history emerge.
