KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK ON WOOD (2014)
Knock, Knock, Knock, Knock On Wood
A solo exhibition at G gallery
Part superstition, part joke, part invitation, the title of this exhibition sets the tone for an exploration into the curious nature of creating and exhibiting work.
In my practice painting holds an element of the unexpected. Painting over old paintings, layering paint over time and incorporating objects outside of the painting frame is part of the way I explore painting as a process. I am interested in the objects that “pick up” paint in the studio. Rags, tables, clothing, become incidental players in a creative search.
Domestic space, gallery space, studio space, dream space are continually being defined and redefined by the objects that fill them, our relation to the objects and the energy of the objects themselves.
The work in this show was created in many different spaces and places, taking on different purposes at different times. Brought together in the gallery, the work speaks to each other about confusion, desire, limitations and personal expression.
